In the lead-up to the 100 year anniversary of  the end of World War I the city of Oxford (the UK) will hold commemoration events on November 11, 2018, with  participating delegations from its twinned cities, including Perm.

Perm is represented by “Evgeny Panfilov’s Ballet” group who will perform in a joint production called “Still we rise”

The Pegasus Youth Theatre in Oxford has a long-going partnership with the young people from Oxford’s  twins. The new  joint production has been inspired by the stories, poetry and songs  from all over the word telling what you need to withstand the fears and fight for your rights. This is a tribute to the fearless people  in many countries  who confront injustice and resistance.

Using Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I rise” and Kristen Visbal’s sculpture “The Fearless Girl” as a starting point and incorporating the female suffrage stories, this production aims at exploring the democratic human rights in different cultures.

Starting September 2018 each creative group was doing preliminary work to prepare their own 10-minute part of the joint performance, which will be included into a final production to be presented to the Oxford public on November 10, 2018. The Perm delegation will also take part in a wreath-laying ceremony on a Remembrance Day on November 11.

It is the first visit of the Evgeny Panfilov’s Ballet group to Oxford; however, they are not new to the joint productions with their British counterparts – in September 2018 they were performing together with the choreographers and dancers from  “Justice in Movement” modern dance group during the 3rd International  Twinned Cities Festival “Come Together” in Perm.
